DRONIC project

AlgEn is collaborating in FP7 DRONIC project as a subcontractor to University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering (UL FGG). The aim of the project is to develop a new, innovative blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) monitoring and treatment robotic system, that can localize and treat hotpots of blue-green algae blooms in lakes, reservoirs, canals and rivers used for drinking water production.

With the DRONIC technology, blooms of blue-green algae can be treated locally at the place where the blooms are present. Because of the direct and localized treatment, the system is environmentally friendly, with a minimal impact on the ecology of the lake. With the local use of high power ultrasound, also the cyanobacterial by-products like toxins can be neutralized.

More about the new DRONIC technology can be found here.

AlgEn has provided an artificial pond with sufficiently dense culture of cyanobacteria Microcystis aeruginosa. Tests with the Dronic ultrasonic transducers have been carried out to prove its efficiency. Microcystin concentrations have been measured at National Institute of Biology.
